ISL9V5036P3 Working Principle

ISL9V5036P3 is a type of transistor which is normally in a “ON” state, but can be switched “OFF” by applying a gate voltage. The device has two terminals: the emitter and collector. At the emitter, electrons are injected into the base (depletion region) of the device. When the gate voltage is applied, the base region is enlarged, reducing the current flow. By controlling the gate voltage, it is possible to control the amount of current that flows through the device.

The switching time of the device is fast because of its very low on-resistance and capacitance. The gate voltage which is used to turn the device on must be applied to the gate, while the emitter and collector terminals are shorted together to enable current to flow. When the gate voltage is removed, the current also stops.

The ISL9V5036P3 employs ultra-low-on resistance for very fast switching and a temperature-resistant, self-limiting gate oxide to reduce gate drive dissipation, extending the operating life of the device. In order to reduce the power consumption in the device, the maximum junction temperature is limited and an effective thermal shutdownis provided, protecting the device from damage due to over temperature conditions.
