The IXH611P1 works as a driver device which the main application is to control the Gate of the power MOSFET or IGBT. The Gate (G) of the power MOSFET or IGBT is the switch that protects the circuit from the overvoltage, undervoltage or short-circuit condition. It takes the signal from the IXH611P1 and then opens and closes this switch. By this action, it provides the robust protections for the initial start-up and also from over current condition.

IXH611P1 also provides the Fault Signal for the over voltage and current situation. When the voltage at the Gate exceeds the safe limit then this signal stops the Gate from turning on, thus providing the necessary protection for the system.

It uses shutdown and OVP inputs to turn off the device when the is no input signal or when the voltage is too low or too high. The thermal shutdown protection feature protects the device from overheating. This feature also works with the over current frequency which limits the Gate current that can be provided.
