KDZTR36B is a single Zener diode which is highly reliable and well-suited for a wide range of applications. It is a high–stability silicon planar power Zener diode, capable of regulating a short circuit current up to 4 mA. It offers a wide range of Zener voltages from 6.2 V to 75 V with a specific full load rating of 7 mA.
In an electronic system, a Zener diode is normally connected in reverse biased mode across a power source to maintain a constant voltage levelregardless of changes in the current through it. This application is used in DC power supplies and voltage clamping circuits. KDZTR36B is also often used in applications such as temperature compensation of reference circuits, over-voltage protection, voltage regulator circuits, and low-voltage switching.
KDZTR36B is designed to work through a wide range of temperatures. It is constructed using two main layers: a heavily doped p-type and a lightly doped n-type as shown in the figure below. In a reverse-biased operating condition, the electric field generated between the two layers starts an avalanche effect, allowing higher current to flow. This is the Zener effect that happens when the breakdown voltage is reached.
The presence of the electric field induces a strong gradient of electrons and ions, which generates an ionized path for the electric current to pass. As a result, the current increases exponentially, forming a stable voltage across the diode. The voltage at which this occurs is known as the Zener Voltage and is dependent on the junction doping levels.
KDZTR36B is designed to handle up to 7mA continuous and up to 4mA in short circuit protection (SCP). The diode also has low ESR and maximizes power dissipation and heat dissipation. As an added benefit, the diode has excellent surge capacity, allowing it to handle short-term high-current pulses. KDZTR36B is also RoHS compliant and meets the MSL Level 1 Requirements.
