L201E3RP Application Field and Working Principle

Thyristors - TRIACs

The L201E3RP is a type of Thyristors – TRIACs (Triode for Alternating Currents), which is a basic type of semiconductor switching device. A TRIAC is a three-terminal electronic device that acts to control the flow of current through an alternating current (AC) circuit. Essentially, it is a three-terminal device that can switch both positive and negative voltage cycles in an AC circuit. The TRIAC is an efficient and cost-effective method of controlling and regulating the power supply of an AC circuit, and is commonly used in switch mode power supplies, motor speed control, and home lighting control.

Application Field

The L201E3RP Thyristors – TRIACs can be used in a variety of applications, from temperature control and motor speed control to home lighting. The L201E3RP has a current switching capacity of 20 Amps and a voltage rating of 400V AC, making it suitable for applications within a wide range of power levels. By being able to control the positive and negative cycles of an AC current, the L201E3RP can be used to create various combinations of alternating current waveforms. This makes it suitable for applications such as light dimming, harmonic filters, switching between loads, and controlling the speed of AC motors.

Working Principle

The working principle of the L201E3RP Thyristors – TRIACs is based on the difference between the emitter current and the combined collector-emitter current, which is commonly known as the “gate current”. When the gate current exceeds a certain threshold called the “on-state current”, the TRIAC begins to conduct, allowing current to flow from the emitter to the collector. If the gate current decreases below the on-state current, the TRIAC stops conducting and the collector-emitter current falls to zero.

The main advantage of the L201E3RP is that it can control both positive and negative cycles of the AC voltage. This process is known as “dynamic bi-directional switching” and it allows the TRIAC to control the cycles of an AC current in both directions.

The L201E3RP Thyristors – TRIACs can also be used to trigger turn-on and turn-off pulses in a synchronized manner. This process is known as “synchronous triggering” and it relies on the gate current of the TRIAC to generate the trigger pulses.
