Triacs are a type of voltage-regulated thyristor, made from three p-n junction semiconductor layers. It is also suitable for low-voltage applications with line voltages up to 380 volts.The L401E373 has an operating temperature range of -40° to 125°C and is stocked in a variety of packages. The most common packages are the TO-220 and TO-3P, but there are other packages available. It has a surge current rating of 600A and a hold current rating of 300A.The L401E373 is a 200V triac with a maximum load current of 6 Amps, featuring a gate trigger current of 1.5mA. Its on-state current at 400V is 1.7A, and its peak off-state voltage is between 600V and 800V. It has a typical fall time of 2.2uS and a typical rise time of 0.7uS.The L401E373 utilizes a unique semiconductor principle called bidirectional conduction to control current flow in an alternating current circuit. The principal involves the use of a three-layer semiconductor structure, consisting of p-type and n-type junctions. This structure has a negative resistance, meaning that when the gate current is increased, the main current increases as well. When current flowing in one direction is switched off, current flowing in the opposite direction is also switched off. The main difference between the L401E373 and other thyristors is its self-control feature – without additional external components, the L401E373 requires only one gate pulse to switch between the forward and reverse conduction states.
