The L5988DTR is an integrated, monolithic, step-down converter with integrated high-side, low-side transistors, current sense and E/A. It can deliver up to 2.0A continuous output current over a wide input voltage range of between 4.7V and 15V. The L5988DTR is a synchronous, highly integrated switching regulator, meaning it uses an external oscillator to generate a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal to control the switch. This makes the device very efficient and flexible, allowing it to be easily adapted to a variety of applications.

The L5988DTR\'s application field include power supplies for laptop computers, tuner and HID lighting, gaming systems and various microprocessor-controlled systems. The output voltage can be finely adjusted by the user through the use of two external resistors. The output voltage is limited to a range of 0.75V to 1.2V.

The internal series PWM controls the switch-over time of the power switch, thus providing smooth transition from the low dropout (LDO) to the output voltage. This guarantees that the output voltage ripple is minimized and no additional capacitors or inductors are needed for noise suppression.
