The LAN91C113-NU Interface - Controllers is a high-performance, low-power integrated single-chip Ethernet controller. It is based on the CS8900A low-cost, high-performance Ethernet controller from Crystal Semiconductor Corporation. This chip integrates several components that are needed for a full-featured 10Base-T Ethernet interface. The LAN91C113-NU Interface - Controllers uses a single I/O bus, which simplifies the hardware design, thus providing low-cost system implementations.

The LAN91C113-NU Interface - Controllers provides several components, such as a 2Kb on-chip SRAM, UART, and 10Base-T PHY, to provide cost-effective Ethernet connectivity. The 2Kb SRAM provides flexible buffering and data transfer capabilities. The UART provides a bridge between the LAN91C113-NU and a network software stack, while the 10Base-T PHY portion provides the physical interface to the network.

The integrated UART of the LAN91C113-NU Interface - Controllers supports up to four simultaneous 500 Kbps ports and can be configured over a four-wire UART interface. The UART also provides an interface between the LAN91C113-NU and host systems, including PCs, Macs, and embedded systems. It enables the LAN91C113-NU to communicate with all of the major network protocol suites such as IP, TCP, and UDP.

The integrated 10Base-T PHY of the LAN91C113-NU Interface - Controllers supports 10 Mbps Ethernet over either Category 3/5 cabling. This PHY supports full duplex operation and up to five channels. The integrated PHY provides an easy-to-use interface for connecting the LAN91C113-NU Interface - Controllers to 10Base-T Ethernet networks. In addition, the PHY provides automatic detection and configuration of the media type and allows for network topology detection, dynamic bandwidth sharing and media rate auto-detection.

The LAN91C113-NU Interface - Controllers also features a variety of hardware features which simplify hardware-software integration. These features include integrated RAM and EEPROM, as well as on-chip clock generator and crystal oscillator. The integrated clock generator allows the LAN91C113-NU to supply clock information to each module, thus simplifying the design of the board. The on-chip EEPROM provides hardware-specific configuration values and allows the configuration to be updated without system downtime.

The LAN91C113-NU Interface - Controllers was designed with low-power requirements in mind. It consumes only 1.8W of power (active mode) and 0.9W of power (idle mode).
