Interface ControllersThe LAN9313I-NZW-TR is a single-port 10/100 Ethernet transceiver and offers an onboard embedded physical layer and media access controller. It’s equipped with Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) for energy/power monitor and offers a PCI Express endpoint for host interface. The LAN9313I-NZW-TR is highly suitable for applications in embedded solutions, automation and control networks such as motion control and safety systems, sensor and wireless networks.Application FieldThe LAN9313I-NZW-TR is designed to provide simple, low-cost applications with economical embedded physical layer (PHY) and media access controller (MAC) solutions. This single-port transceiver integrates an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) for energy/power monitor, as well as onboard memories for PHY and MAC for simplifying design and operation.The LAN9313I-NZW-TR offers a 10Base-T and 100Base-TX Ethernet transceiver. The IEEE 802.3-compliant transceiver supports 10-/100-Mbps data rates and is applicable for many applications in control networks, medical sensors, telecom and smoke detectors. End device applications include Lighting Control, HVAC, RFID and Railway systems.The Transceiver also supports an embedded network management protocol stack, the LAN9313-EMac, and is offered in TSSOP and QFN packages. This offers a range of options for designers looking for a cost effective solution to 10/100 Ethernet transceiver requirements.Working PrincipleThe LAN9313I-NZW-TR features a fast Ethernet transceiver. The transceiver is compliant to IEEE802.3 Ethernet Standard. Autonegotiation support allows the transceiver to automatically sense the speed and duplex settings of the connected link partner. When the link partner autonegotiates, the transceiver sends 1000Base-T and 100Base-Tx auto-negotiation frames. When no auto-negotiation is used, the auto-negotiation is disabled so that the transceiver is set up for 10Base-T or 100Base-Tx.The transceiver is also compliant to Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) and implements IEEE802.3az power management technologies, which reduce power consumption during idle periods. The transceiver wakes up quickly when a packet is received, so response time is low.The transceiver also has an embedded microcontroller that allows customers to develop their own protocol stack. The microcontroller supports the Link Layer Control (LLC) layer and the Media Access Control (MAC) layer. It also supports 10Base-T/100Base-Tx and 1000Base-T functions such as autonegotiation and link speed detection. It also supports other network management protocols like SNMP, which are necessary for monitoring and diagnostics.The onboard ADC can be used to measure the energy used by the transceiver for diagnostics and power monitoring.
