LAN9215I-MT

The LAN9215I-MT is a highly-integrated, single-channel 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet physical layer transceiver that covers the complete physical layer interface from the Media Independent Interface (MII) or Reduced Media Independent Interface (RMII) to the twisted pair cables. It supports 10/100 Full Duplex and 1000Mbps Full Duplex operation for copper medium.It is highly compatible with the IEEE802.3 standard, with the Auto MDI-X feature for MDI/MDIX crossover for all four pairs. The most advantageous feature of the LAN9215I-MT is the reduction of system cost, enabled by its ultra–low power consumption and small package size.

The LAN9215I-MT features a 12KB I2C EEPROM and an I2C Serial Host Interface controller. The 12KB I2C EEPROM provides the storage of configuration data, while the I2C Serial Host Interface controller supports external programming of the device\'s registers with up to 14-bit register addresses.

Working Principle of LAN9215I-MT

The LAN9215I-MT is a full-featured physical layer device enabling 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet operation. It includes a twisted-pair transceiver and supports various auto-negotiation modes for speed selection, full- and half-duplex mode selection, and MDI/MDIX auto-crossover for all four pairs. The LAN9215I-MT transmits Ethernet frames by serializing the signals into a serial stream. The device performs framing and checksums on transmitted frames, stores sent frames in its transmit Memory buffer, and can store up to 64 frames in its receive memory buffer. The Ethernet PHY is powered by a 3.3V LDO internal power supply.

The 32KB receive memory buffer supports FIFO, which allows two independent frames to be multiplexed onto the data bus. The PHY also supports external frame bursting capabilities, allowing the upstream Ethernet MAC to request more than the single frame for each buffer transfer. The buffering can be programmed for any size, from 64-bytes to 2KB.The 2.5V LDO internal power supply or external power supply can be used to activate the power down mode.
