Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors
Electrolytic capacitors are divided into aluminum electrolytic capacitors and tantalum electrolytic capacitors. Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are by far the most common type of capacitor used in electronic circuits. They are made up of an anode aluminum foil, an electrolyte, and a dielectric (cathode) oxide film, separated by a paper spacer or a non-conductive polymer film. The foil is electrode of positive polarity, and the oxide film is the electrode of negative polarity. The construction of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor makes it polarized, thus it must be connected in the circuit in the correct way, otherwise it can be damaged.
The LGU2G820MELY capacitor is an aluminum electrolytic capacitor which is specially designed for the application of high-temperature and over-current protection, as well as power related overload protection and harsh environmental conditions. This type of capacitor is mainly used in AC and DC motors, UPS systems, solar inverters, air compressors, and other high-temperature applications such as automotive electronics and instrument enclosures.
The working principle of the LGU2G820MELY capacitor is based on the fact that it is constructed from a positively charged anode aluminum foil and a negatively charged dielectric oxide film. When a current flows between its two terminals, it creates a charge imbalance that generates an electrostatic field which is used to store energy. The energy stored in the capacitor is proportional to the amount of charge stored in the dielectric. The higher the charge stored in the dielectric, the higher the capacitance of the capacitor. The amount of charge stored in the dielectric is determined by the voltage applied to it.
