Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are found in a wide variety of applications and are commonly used in power supplies, filters, and decoupling applications. The LGU2Z331MELZ is a radial-leaded aluminum electrolytic capacitor comprising of a thin aluminum oxide layer as the dielectric and aluminum as the anode. The LGU2Z331MELZ works by storing electrical energy in the form of electrostatic fields between the metal plates. This energy is present in the form of a charge, when the voltage is applied across the capacitor. The alternating current passes through the electrolyte, resulting in an accumulation of charges on each plate. This creates an electric charge within the capacitor. The magnitude of the electric charge is determined by the capacitance of the capacitor. When the voltage across the capacitor reaches a certain level, an electric field is created which creates an inversion of the current. This inversion of the current electronically blocks the flow of current and the capacitor is said to be charged.
