Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are capacitors whose capacitance is obtained by combining two aluminum foils together with a separator containing an electrolyte paste.The two plates are the anode and the cathode respectively, and the electrolyte is an ionic conducting material between the two.

The LGW2G101MELZ25 is a radial leaded aluminum electrolytic capacitor designed for use in a wide range of applications including HVAC equipment, communications equipment, and industrial systems. The LGW2G101MELZ25 features an operating temperature range of -55°C to +105°C and is available in six different capacitance ranges: 1µF to 10µF, 10µF to 33µF, 33µF to 56µF, 56µF to 120µF, 120µF to 180µF and 180µF to 1000µF. The maximum ripple current for this capacitor is 2.4A at a frequency of 100KHz and 105°C.

The LGW2G101MELZ25 utilizes an externally applied voltage applied across the two aluminum plates to create a charge separation. This is done when the foil is anodized, which creates an oxide layer along the surface of the foil. This oxide layer acts as a porous medium through which ions can diffuse and establish an electric field across the foil. The anode, which acts as a source of electrons, becomes negative, while the cathode, which acts as an electron sink, becomes positive.
