The LM22670TJ-ADJ/NOPB is a dual-mode step-down DC-DC switching regulator designed specifically to support Intel’s advanced low voltage processors. This regulator is highly efficient and requires a minimal number of external components to operate. The LM22670TJ-ADJ/NOPB has been designed to address the toughest design challenges without compromising efficiency, performance or cost.
Application Field:
The LM22670TJ-ADJ/NOPB is ideal for a wide range of applications including wireless LANs, handheld communication devices, notebook computers, HDTVs, STBs and other systems that require higher efficiency at lower input voltages and need to minimize the number of external components.
The LM22670TJ-ADJ/NOPB is designed to offer an extremely low output voltage ripple even when constantly switching, with a low input capacitor size and sufficiently large output capacitor size to offer excellent transient response. The LM22670TJ-ADJ/NOPB is also optimized for low external component count, reduced space and cost. It includes programmable soft-start, output voltage adjustability, frequency synchronization, and auxiliary output.
Working Principle:
The LM22670TJ-ADJ/NOPB uses a typical buck switching converter architecture with an internal low-side NMOS transistor for power transfer and a high-side control circuit for switching control and current loop control. The buck regulator is operated in pulse width modulation (PWM) mode, where the high-side control circuit generates a pulse width modulated waveform. The width of the pulse controls the average output voltage of the regulator. The output voltage of the regulator can be adjusted with a feedback network in the control circuit.
The LM22670TJ-ADJ/NOPB provides the additional features of programmable Soft-Start, true output voltage adjustability, frequency synchronization, and an auxiliary output pin. Programmable Soft-Start allows the system to reduce inrush current. With true output voltage adjustability, the output voltage can be varied while operating within the specified operating range. The LM22670TJ-ADJ/NOPB is also capable of frequency synchronization to an external clock. This allows noise to be minimized. Additionally, an auxiliary output pin is available and can be used as an enable or soft-off control interface.
The LM22670TJ-ADJ/NOPB utilizes an internal compensation network to maintain loop stability. The output voltage of the regulator is monitored by a voltage regulator circuit to maintain the desired output voltage. The voltage regulator circuit comprises an error amplifier and a control loop. The error amplifier compares the voltage at the feedback input to the reference voltage and generates an error signal. The control loop compares the error signal with the switching signal and adjusts the duty cycle of the NMOS transistor in order to maintain the desired output voltage.
