The LM22673MR-5.0/NOPB step-down switching regulator is well-suited for a variety of applications, including servers, point-of-load (POL), digital media, battery powered devices, and portable electronics with high power requirements.

Working principle

LM22673MR-5.0/NOPB operates as a step-down switching regulator. When the battery voltage VBAT exceeds the system voltage VOUT by a certain voltage drop, the main switch of the regulator is turned on. The output voltage VOUT is determined by the internal VLT541/VG541 reference voltage, which can be adjusted in a ±10% range using external resistors. The regulated output voltage is fedback to the control pin of the main switch. If the output voltage is lower than its required value, the switch is kept on longer, and the output voltage is increased.

The LM22673MR-5.0/NOPB also provides reverse current protection. When the battery voltage is lower than the output voltage, the auxiliary switch is turned on. The switch is kept on until the voltage difference reaches a certain value, in order to keep the output voltage steady. The output voltage is kept constant despite of the load variations and input voltage fluctuations.

The LM22673MR-5.0/NOPB also includes other features such as soft-start, frequency synchronization and current limit. These features provide extra protection from overloads and short-circuits, as well as lower stress on components.
