The LM2726MX is a versatile gate driver by Texas Instruments that is beneficial in a wide range of applications. In general, they are a type of power management integrated circuit (PMIC) specially designed to match with a wide variety of low voltage bipolar junction transistors (BJT) and metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET). This makes them an ideal solution for high-side and low-side switching needs. By providing up to a 2A of drive current from a low-voltage supply, the LM2726MX delivers excellent performance when changing the on and off state of loads. It is available in two versions, with either active low (LM2726MM) or active high (LM2726MX) logic inputs. This enables it to connect to nearly any microcontroller or other logic device with an on-board voltage up to 4V. It also has two 2A open emitter low-side outputs, one denoted as OA and other OC. In addition, integrated high-side drivers are offered to ease the need for double-sided PCB designs. It also contains a maximum frequency of 100kHz for switching between on and off states at a linear rate. Not only does this increase efficiency and heat dissipation, it reduces ringing from capacitive loads that could lead to spurious switching.
The LM2726MX has a built-in schmitt-trigger input that removes the need for external components and eliminates any additional filtering and noise reduction requirements. This gives it the added benefit of a fast and reliable response time when switching from off to on or from on to off. The output stage of the LM2726MX is also optimized for low-voltage, low-power switching applications, with a threshold voltage of 1.3V and a maximum output saturation voltage of 0.3V. The LM2726MX also has an internal charge pump circuit, enabling it to significantly reduce the voltage drop along the output MOSFETs, resulting in improved power delivery and reduced power consumption.
The LM2726MX also offers a wide range of protection features and self-locking gates that are beneficial when working with high-voltage, high-power, and inrush current sources. These features include thermal and current protection, a smart eFUSE for overcurrent protection, as well as a slew rate that can be adjusted depending on the load. The LM2726MX also features a programmable bootstrap speed control for adjusting the power supply voltage for the output MOSFETs, minimizing the transitions time between states, thereby minimizing energy losses and increasing efficiency.
