LM311DG – Linear Comparators

The LM311DG is a linear integrated circuit comperator design by Texas Instruments and is ideal for a multitude of applications. This device is the dual version of the LM311 and is designed to provide less offset and drift than the single package. The LM311DG comes in a 14-pin dual-in-line package, containing two independent circuits. It is mounted in sockets, allowing for increased circuit flexibility, easier maintenance, and improved isolation.

The LM311DG is used as a comparator and is often paired with an op-amp, making it more suitable for high-speed and closed-loop comparison operations. It performs three different types of operations: linear, fast, and comparison. The LM311DG is designed to compare two input signals, A and B, of the same polarity. When the inputs are in phase, the comparator typically takes up to 15ps to detect the difference in its inputs. When the inputs are out of phase, the comparator typically takes up to 150μs to detect the difference. This response time is significantly faster than that of a classical comparator.

This power consumption is much lower than what is typically seen in similarly-sized comparators.
