The output is internally set to 5.0V, but the voltage can be adjusted from 1.2 V to about 37V by using a external resistor. The LM340LAZ-5.0/NOPB features an internal power limiting circuit and current foldback protection. It can provide up to 5A of output current. The maximum power dissipation is 25W.The LM340LAZ-5.0/NOPB is based on the voltage regulator principle. A voltage regulator is a device that supplies a voltage of constant level or magnitude, regardless of the load current or output voltage. It consists of an input which receives the incoming direct current and output terminals supplying the output voltage. The LM340LAZ-5.0/NOPB is a linear voltage regulator which regulates the output voltage with a transconductance amplifier.
