The LM34CH/NOPB module is based on a highly accurate temperature-sensing chip called LM34CY-N which can measure temperatures between –65°C and +150°C with ±0.5°C accuracy. The LM34CY-N chip uses a 12-bit analog-to-digital temperature conversion to output a temperature signal, and the LM34CH/NOPB module features both a 0–5V analog output and an I2C digital output. It includes on-board temperature compensation, and uses a link to connect the LM34CY-N to the user’s application circuitry. The LM34CH/NOPB also has two LED indicators to indicate power and temperature status.

From an application perspective, the LM34CH/NOPB is especially useful for cold chain monitoring, automotive heating and air-conditioning systems, agricultural and industrial applications, HVAC systems, and temperature measuring in laboratories. It can also be used in home applications such as water heaters, dishwashers, stoves, ovens, and other home appliances, as well as in medical applications or for measuring the ambient temperature.

The working principle of the LM34CH/NOPB module is relatively simple. When measuring temperatures, the LM34CY-N chip is connected to the user’s application circuit via a link. When connected, the chip switches between two different states. When in the non-measurement state, the chip does not sense any electrical noise or heat. When in the measurement state, the chip senses the temperature and outputs an analog voltage or digital I2C signal. The chip then compares the input voltage to a reference voltage, which is set by the user. The chip also has an auto-compensation feature that adjusts according to the temperature ranges.

The analog output from the LM34CH/NOPB module is voltage-based and is linear with temperature. The voltage range of the output is between 0-5V, which corresponds to the temperature range of –65°C to +150°C. The digital output is in I2C format, and is a direct representation of the temperature input.
