The primary application of the LM828M5/NOPB is in Automotive DC-DC switching applications, where high-current output is required and wide input voltage ranges are needed. The device utilizes a pair of power MOSFETs in a synchronous rectification configuration to provide high conversion efficiency and fast transient response. The device can be used to convert both positive and negative input voltages to an output which is either lower or higher than the input voltage. The output voltage can be adjusted by an external resistor connected to an internal adjustable voltage reference.

An internal undervoltage lockout (UVLO) feature can be enabled to protect the device against unwanted startup when the input voltage is too low. Additionally, the LM828M5/NOPB integrates a series of protection features such as over-voltage protection, current limitation, over-temperature protection, and input reverse polarity protection. The integrated protection circuitry ensures full safety and reliable operation even in harsh automotive environments.

The LM828M5/NOPB is a very efficient voltage regulator, with an efficiency of up to 96%. It provides a wide input voltage range and can effectively output up to 5A of current.

The device contains two high-side and two low-side power MOSFETs connected in a synchronous rectification configuration. This allows high conversion efficiency and fast transient response.
