When power enter in the components, the capacitor gets charged through the resistor, and as soon as the voltage at pin 1 and pin 8 surpasses the threshold value, the capacitor gets discharged and the cycle restarts. Whereas in monostable mode, a single, one shot output pulse is generated when a trigger pulse is applied. Here the timing components and triggers are externally connected to pin 2, pin 6 and pin 7.
