LMK00725PW is a high-performance, low-skew, programmable, zero-delay buffer designed to distribute low-skew, high-performance clocks. This zero-delay buffer (ZDB) is designed specifically for digital electronic systems requiring multiple clock sources. This device provides a convenient method to create up to four-four clock outputs from a single differential input.
The LMK00725PW features an on-chip, low-skew clocks and allows each output to be configured, as required, to one of eight possible prespecified phase delays. With a maximum skew of only 10 ps, all outputs are provided with phase accurate timing. Moreover, the LMK00725PW is capable of automatically switching between two clock sources without any external logic.
The LMK00725PW has a variety of applications in a wide range of communication and internet-based systems. It is ideal for transmitting high-speed clock signals, buffering chips, spread spectrum and 3G/4G mobile base station clock synchronization. It is also well-suited for use in medical electronics, military and aerospace systems requiring high-speed and accurate timing.
The working principle of LMK00725PW is based on a two-stage voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) architecture. The complete clock synchronization system comprises an input clock source, an external reference clock, and a series of VCOs and frequency dividers. The reference clock\'s frequency is used to divide the input clock\'s frequency and the resulting signals match with the internal VCO frequency and then synchronize the divided clock.
The reference clock\'s frequency set by the appropriate resistor divider from the input frequency source sets the sync frequency in the internal VCOs and hence determines the overall system clock rate. In addition to the reference clock\'s frequency, the internal dividers can be programmed to generate the outputs of the desired clock rate. This programmability coupled with the ZDB\'s low jitter and low latency makes it an ideal solution for clock applications.
