LMS3635LQRNLRQ1 Application Field and Working PrincipleDC/DC switching regulators are one of the most common types of voltage regulators used today due to their high efficiency, small size, and low power consumption. The LMS3635LQRNLRQ1 is an ultra-low power DC/DC breakout board from Linear Tech, Inc. that is used in portable power applications such as portable media players. This board features a wide output voltage range (1.8V-5.5V), high switching frequency (1MHz), and programmable soft start.The LMS3635LQRNLRQ1 consists of two main sections. The first is a high-efficiency DC/DC buck converter, which provides a regulated DC voltage output. The second is a low-side MOSFET switch which enables forced-PWM or pulse-skipping operation for improved efficiency and EMI performance.The buck converter operates by taking an input voltage, typically from a battery, and converting it into a regulated output voltage using an inductor-capacitor (LC) filter. When the load increases, the switch will close and current will be forced through the load. This ensures that the output voltage remains within an acceptable range.Pulse-skipping operation is used when a particularly high efficiency is required.
