Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers have a wide range of applications, and the LMX2572RHAR is no exception. This device is a clock generator, Phase-Locked Loop (PLL), and Frequency Synthesizer solution with dual Digital Voltage Controlled Oscillators (DVCO). It is suitable for a variety of applications, including communications and networking (e.g. digital clock distribution, frequency control, etc.), automotive (e.g. ADAS, GNSS, Bluetooth etc.) as well as audio and video production and broadcasting.

The LMX2572RHAR is a single-chip solution which can generate up to five different reference frequencies from a single clock input source. It integrates two DVCOs with a common PLL and frequency synthesizer to cover the entire frequency range from 10 to 770 MHz, allowing for low cost, low power operation. It also features very low jitter levels, allowing for yielding high-performance clock signals for precise synchronization. Moreover, the device also includes an internal 32-bit Digital Word Processor (DWP), which can be used to control the frequency hopping during changes in the reference clock rate.

In terms of working principle, the LMX2572RHAR utilizes a dual DVCO combined with a proprietary amplifier topology to accurately convert digital inputs into multiple frequencies, while the in-built PLL and frequency synthesizer circuit enables the generation of a precise, desired output clock frequency. The DVCOs work by taking an input clock signal and modulating it using a Digital Control Bus (DCB). The DCB then, using a voltage reference, generates a control voltage for the DVCO, which modulates the frequency of the resulting output clock signal. The PLL and frequency synthesizer then takes the output from the two DVCOs and combines it, producing the desired precise output clock signal. The DWP can further control the frequency hopping, by taking the input signal and modulating it to produce higher or lower frequencies as desired. The signal is then sent back to the DVCO for precise control.

The LMX2572RHAR is able to cover a range of various applications which require precise frequency control, clock synchronization or generation. It is ideal for applications such as communications and networking, automotive, as well as audio and video production and broadcasting, due to its extremely low jitter levels and precise frequency control. The device is capable of producing up to five separate clocks, as well as efficiently modulating the frequency with its internal Digital Word Processor.
