The LNK606PG is a high-efficiency, low-ripple, low-power integrated power conversion device developed by Power Integrations. The device enables designers to quickly and easily create highly efficient, low-noise, offline switch mode power supplies with a single device. Primarily used in applications such as consumer electronic products, consumer appliances, telecommunication and computing systems, the LNK606PG can also be found in medical devices, lighting systems and automotive applications.
This device is an offline switcher, powered by an AC-DC converter which has good performance in most applications; It is capable of supplying output power up to 6W and is with in itself a complete power conversion system. The device consists of PWM controller, rectifier diode, power MOSFET, compensation network, EMI filter and opto-coupler. All these features make this device an optimal solution for low power designs.
In any application, the main work of an offline switcher is to convert an unregulated AC input voltage into a low-ripple and regulated DC output voltage. The key components which make up an offline switcher are a MOSFET, a transformer, a rectifier bridge, an EMI filter, an opto-coupler and a voltage regulator. All these components working in tandem result in a product which efficiently converts an AC input voltage into a low-ripple and regulated DC output voltage.
In the LNK606PG, Power Integrations has integrated all these components into one device and the device gains its high efficiency through variable frequency control of its power MOSFETs. The power MOSFETs are driven with a highly efficient, constant frequency PWM controller which is contained on the same device. The PWM controller operates in a range between 50-100 kHz which is significantly lower than the frequency range of a traditional offline switcher, allowing for good efficiency.
The device also comes with an adjustable output voltage which can be adjusted to suit the application requirements. Additionally, the device has numerous safety features such as under-voltage lockout and maximum limit over-voltage protection that prevents the device from damage during the event of certain conditions.
The EMI filter contained within the device is designed to reduce EMI/RFI emissions from the device. The EMI filter can also be adjusted to suit different applications, enabling the device to meet different standards for EMI, such as FCC Part 15, EN55022 and VDE-B, depending on the application requirements.
The opto-coupler contained within the LNK606PG is fitted to provide the feedback voltage to the PWM controller, allowing the PWM controller to control the output voltage. The opto-coupler also helps to reduce the high frequency noise which would otherwise blow through to the output of the power supply.
Overall, the device has all the components which make up a complete offline switcher and make it a perfect choice for most applications. Its high efficiency, low power consumption, EMI/RFI reduction, adjustable output voltage and comprehensive protection features make it the ideal power conversion device for many applications.
