The LNK6765K is an offline, isolated AC/DC converter integrated circuit (IC) designed and manufactured by power management and semiconductor company Powerex. It is a SMPS integrated circuit (IC) designed for use in a variety of applications, including automotive, computer, industrial and medical. The LNK6765K IC is suitable for use as a stand-alone power supply or as part of a more complex system design.
The LNK6765K IC is an advanced switching regulator with integrated characteristics, allowing it to operate in either a buck or boost topology. Internally, it consists of an oscillator, a switching device, synchronous rectification, and a controller. The integrated features of the LNK6765K also comprise a wide VIN /VOUT range, output regulation, soft start, and programmable over-current and thermal protection modes. It also has a low quiescent current for improved efficiency and extended system battery life.
The LNK6765K offline switchers come in three different voltage versions which include 24V, 36V and 48V. They have an output current rating of 1.5A and an input voltage rating from 85-265Vac. When the switch is activated, the inductor releases the energy stored in the form of a current. This causes the output voltage to drop from the higher input voltage to the desired level. The boost topology, on the other hand, is a process wherein a higher voltage is produced from a lower voltage. This involves the transfer of energy from a source voltage to a load voltage. When the power switch is activated, the inductor stores energy in the form of a magnetic field and when the switch is turned off, the inductor is forced to release the stored energy.
This causes a higher current to be supplied to the load, thus producing a higher output voltage. The power switch then turns off this higher voltage and the voltage at the output is regulated by the controller. This is done by controlling the on and off cycles of the switch and the conduction of the synchronous rectification.
