The LNK624PG is a current-mode Hybrid PWM Controller designed for the secondary side of AC-DC offline converter with wide input voltage range. By utilizing the unique Intelli−Sense technology, universal AC input with low standby power is achievable. External bootstrap diode and optocoupler are featured to eliminate the extra components count and no coupled-inductor is required. Furthermore, Green/Controlled Off Circuit features user friendly of system design. The LNK624PG can further be applied in power adapter, LED power source, consumer electronic and home appliance with low cost.
The LNK624PG integrates two power MOSFETs, two high voltage pulses and one low voltage pulse. These pulses have different pulse widths which result to almost equal voltages across the two MOSFET gates. This is called a Resonant H-bridge (or Half-Bridge) configuration of an offline converter, which is a tried-and-true topology for isolating AC-DC converters. It bridges the gap between high-frequency switching circuits and low-frequency transformers, allowing for a wide range of applications.
The LNK624PG comprises an internal oscillator to generate the high voltage pulses, but the duty cycle of the gate drive signals is determined by a connected high-voltage sense resistor. It also includes two dedicated outputs for sensing the drain voltage of the two MOSFETs and one output is connected to the rectified-dc voltage of the output Transformer. This unique feature, called Intelli-Sense, allows the LNK624PG to adjust its own operating parameters to match the application and environment.
The operation of the LNK624PG includes an input voltage range of AC 85 to 305 VAC and a switching frequency of up to 100 kHz. The low voltage pulses are used to turn on and off the power MOSFETs. The high voltage pulses energize the resonance Tank circuit through the switch/ Source pin. The frequency of the high voltage pulse is determined by the number of turns of the coupling inductor. By configuring the resonance frequency and the switching frequency, it is possible to achieve Zero-voltage switching (ZVS) for higher efficiency. When the drain voltage of the MOSFETs reaches the turn-off voltage, the resonance of the Tank circuit is faster than the switching frequency allowing for the fly capacitor to take over and prevent current from flowing through the MOSFETs.
The LNK624PG IC is suitable for many applications including high frequency AC/DC conversion, AC/DC primary-side switching, and also provides high efficiency with low cost. It offers an adjustable current limit, overvoltage protection, and adjustable soft start feature, making it an excellent choice for any AC/DC application. Furthermore, the LNK624PG IC integrates two independant isolated gate drivers, allowing two isolated switching circuits to be connected to it at the same time. This is extremely helpful in offline DC/DC conversion applications such as LED lighting or LED panel display.
Finally, the LNK624PG IC is also capable of being used as an off-line DC/DC buck converter, making it an ideal choice for battery charging and/or power management applications. The device also provides an adjustable over-voltage protection on its output stage, as well as a selectable frequency range from 300kHz to 1 MHz allowing it to be used in a wide variety of applications. Additionally, the LNK624PG can be used in applications that are often limited by thermal efficiency and cost constraints.
