Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors are commonly used in many applications which require high capacitance in small volumes. The LNR2E473MSEN is a series that offers up to 4700µF capacitance in an E-Size case size while retaining a high voltage rating of up to 450VDC. This type of capacitor is ideal for higher voltage applications with space constraints or higher capacitance requirements such as power supplies, solar inverters, LED lighting, and motor drives.A capacitor is a device that is used to store electrical energy or stabilize a voltage source. This is achieved by allowing the electric field between two charged plates which form an energy storing element. The plates are typically composed of two electrodes, which form a conductor pair. The electrostatic interaction between the conductor pair and the electric field will produce a polarization effect which creates a potential difference, or a difference in voltage, across the capacitor when the pair is connected to a voltage source. This introduces an opposite charge between the two electrodes, producing a capacitance value. The analogy between a capacitor and a battery is that a battery stores chemical energy while the capacitor stores electric energy.The LNR2E473MSEN capacitors are aluminum electrolytic capacitors that feature a radial lead style with an E-Size case size. This type of capacitor is composed of an aluminum foil as the anode component, separated from the cathode component by a dielectric material such as paper, mica, or a polymer film. The combination of the anode and dielectric determines the capacitance and physical size of the device. The anodes of the aluminum electrolytic capacitors are electrolytically etched which creates a very high capacitance in a small package. The electrolyte provides an efficient transfer of charge between the anode electrode and the cathode electrode.The LNR2E473MSEN capacitors are rated for up to 450VDC and 4700µF of capacitance. The capacitance of a capacitor is measured in Farads and is the charge stored per unit voltage applied. The higher a capacitance value is, the more charge it can store.
