Working Principle
Aluminum electrolytic capacitors produce capacitance by forming an oxide film on the surface of the aluminum foil. The two electrodes of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor are made of pure aluminum, and a thin oxide film is formed on the surface of the electrodes by anodic oxidation. This oxide film acts as a dielectric, and together with the electrolyte, constitutes the core element of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor. When an alternating current is applied to the capacitor, the oxidation film can reach a relatively high voltage without damaging itself. The two electrodes are separated by a porous separator paper that is soaked in the electrolyte and provides ion transfer. The electrolyte not only plays a role in conducting electricity, but also plays a role in adding large capacitance.
When the aluminum electrolytic capacitor is being charged, the aluminum ions in the oxide film are gradually replaced by other ions from the electrolyte, thus increasing the capacitance.
