The LP3983ITLX-1.6/NOPB is a low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator designed for Ultra Low Output Voltage. The device features an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and operates at current up to 1.6A. It is available in the TO-263 5-Lead package and delivered as either a fixed output voltage or an adjustable voltage. The output voltage may be adjustable between 0.8V and 6.0V. It is ideal for applications where ultra low current operation is necessary such as low-power supply and battery-powered systems.

Working Principle

The LP3983ITLX-1.6/NOPB regulator operates by comparing an internal reference voltage (VREF) to a feedback voltage (VFB) and generating a current proportional to the difference. The output voltage of the device is proportional to VREF. When the feedback voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the regulators output voltage will be lower than VREF and vice versa. This loop action helps to maintain the output voltage at a fixed value in the presence of line, load and ambient temperature variations.

The device incorporates an on-chip current limit and thermal protection. Current limit is set to a minimum of 1.6 A continuous. To protect the device from over temperature, the maximum junction temperature can be set from -40°C to +125°C.
