The LP5552TLEV is a member of a Family of Compact Fully Integrated Off-Line Switched Mode Power Supplies (SMS). The LP5552TLEV is specifically designed for a wide range of applications, such as digital cameras, personal digital assistants (PDAs), set-top boxes and other consumer or computer peripherals that require a compact, low-cost, low-noise, high efficiency and good thermal solution
This Evaluation Board can be used to evaluate the performance of the LP5552TLEV and provides designers with an efficient and easy platform to quickly develop a complete off-line application. The board allows for fine-tuning of various critical parameters such as the flyback transformer parameters and DC input voltage.
The LP5552TLEV application field is mainly based on two main principles—switching and self-control principles.
Switching Principle
The switching principle is based on the fact that the LP5552TLEV’s built-in switching transistor is always in its conductive state--on--and can be switched to \'off\' state by the control logic in order to regulate the voltage. This switching occurs at a very high frequency (100kHz) and is achieved by the control logic switching the transistor on and off in a pattern that is constant and related to the input voltage and load demands, thereby providing a stable output voltage.
Self-Control Principle
The second principle by which the LP5552TLEV works is termed the ‘self-control’ principle, where the built-in control logic continuously adjusts the on/off cycle to maintain a constant output voltage and a high efficiency over a wide range of line and load variations.
The LP5552TLEV\'s self-control principle includes three features: Restart, Auto-transition and Auto-tuning. Restart is where the supply is able to restart itself after a power on/off cycle, even if it has been interrupted by a voltage dip or surge. Additionally, the Auto-transition feature prevents excessive inrush current during the start-up of the power supply. Lastly, the Auto-tuning feature maintains a constant output voltage and improves power delivery efficiency under load/line variations.
