The LP5900TLX-2.2/NOPB is a linear voltage regulator. It’s usually used for portable device applications such as tablet PCs, smart phones, portable media players, and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver systems.

The LP5900TLX-2.2/NOPB includes an Internal Voltage Regulator that can provide up to 270mA of load current and 2.2V output voltage. It provides excellent transient line regulations, very low noise, and fast output settling time. The output voltage is accurate and well regulated under varying load, line and temperature conditions.

Working Principle

The LP5900TLX-2.2/NOPB is a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator that uses a P-channel MOSFET to regulate the output voltage (Vout). It has an internal voltage reference which sets the output voltage. The device also has an internal temperature-sensing circuit which provides thermal protection. The LDO is designed to operate from an input voltage ranging from 1.8V to 5.5V. The maximum output current is 270mA.

When the input voltage is greater than the reference voltage plus the dropout voltage, the P-channel MOSFET will turn on. The input voltage will be connected across the source-drain of the MOSFET. This voltage will be dropped across the MOSFET, thus providing the regulated output voltage. The output voltage is regulated by changing the parameters of the MOSFET such as its gate voltage. Furthermore, the regulation characteristics of the LDO are improved by adding an external bypass capacitor. The capacitor will reduce the output voltage ripple and the noise at the output.

When the input voltage is lower than the reference voltage plus the dropout voltage, the P-channel MOSFET will turn off and the output voltage will be equal to the input voltage. In this case, the output voltage will no longer be regulated and the device will no longer provide its regulation characteristics. This is why it is important to make sure that the input voltage is higher than the reference voltage plus the dropout voltage before attempting to use the device.

The LP5900TLX-2.2/NOPB offers good line and load regulation, stable output voltage, low dropout voltage, and good thermal performance. Thanks to its low quiescent current, the device can support a wide range of applications while supplying reliable power to the system.
