The Texas Instruments LP5900 family of low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulators consists of devices offering low-noise, low-power operation with a wide variety of features. Application Field

Working Principle
The LP5900TLX-1.9 Series achieves these low-noise performance attributes by incorporating a low-power P-Channel MOSFET pass transistor in its output stage. The pass transistor is configured in a series regulator pass configuration that provides excellent transient response and low quiescent current operation. This series regulator circuit acts as a current source which allows the regulator to maintain a constant output current. This mode of operation eliminates the need to store energy during a load transient, thereby allowing the regulator to be fast and efficient.
The LP5900TLX-1.9 Series also includes several FET-debounce circuits which serve to reduce the power dissipation of the pass transistor. These FET-debounce circuits also reduce the output noise generated by the pass transistor during transient load steps. The LP5900TLX-1.9 Series also includes both current-limit protection and internal thermal shutdown protection.
The LP5900TLX-1.9 Series utilizes a voltage detector circuit in order to quickly detect when the output voltage is out of regulation. The voltage detector circuit also ensures that the output voltage is not significantly undershoot before the device can enter its current limit protection mode. The voltage reference used in the LP5900TLX-1.9 Series is extremely stable and is designed to provide good accuracy and temperature stability.
