The LP5951MG-3.0/NOPB is a member of the LP5951MG family of high-performance, ultra-high-efficiency, low-noise, fixed-voltage linear voltage-regulating devices from Texas Instruments. This device is designed to provide a regulated output voltage of either 3.3 V or 5 V from a wide input source range of 4.5 V to 16 V over a -40°C to +105°C temperature range. With a low quiescent current of 6 μA, the LP5951MG’s quiescent current is the lowest-available amongst PMICs supplying 3.3V/5V outputs.
The LP5951MG-3.0/NOPB is a flexible power solution offering a low output noise of 30μVrms (20 Hz to 100 kHz) and tight line/load regulation of 0.2% over the rated temperature and input voltage range. This precision regulator can cover a large number of general-purpose and battery-operated applications while running at low EM noise. Additionally, this device features a shutdown current of 125nA and flash overload protection.

The LP5951MG-3.0/NOPB can be represented as a linear negative-feedback loop, where a p-channel MOSFET on the input side of the regulator acts as a switch, and a voltage divider is used to establish the target output voltage. A comparator is used to compare the output voltage to a reference voltage, and the output of the comparator is used to control the gate voltage of the p-channel MOSFET. As the load current changes, the output voltage will adjust accordingly, and the gate voltage is dynamically adjusted to ensure that the output voltage remains constant.
The comparator\'s output is combined with an enable signal to create a low-power enable feature in the LP5951MG-3.0/NOPB. When the enable feature is enabled, the regulating loop will remain active and the output voltage will remain constant while all other components (such as the voltage divider and MOSFET) are disabled. The enable signal also has hysteresis to avoid frequent toggling of the enable signal, resulting in reduced current surges.
