The LT3460ESC6#TRM is an easy-to-use step-up DC-DC switching regulator series ideal for a broad range of automotive and industrial applications. The device operates from an input voltage as low as 2.5 V and provides up to 1.5 A of continuous output current. With its wide range of features, combined with a new, ultra-low 0.15 Ω internal switch, this series offers a simple solution for maintaining low emission and lower thermal stress.
The LT3460ESC6#TRM is designed for high efficiency operation over a wide input voltage range. The internal switch is composed of an ultra-low on-resistance MOSFET with a secret sauce resistor to further reduce ringing and losses. Internal compensation eliminates the need for external components, allowing for a design that is fast, simple and efficient.
The LT3460ESC6#TRM provides an adjustable and accurate output voltage, ranging from 0.75 up to 5.5 V. The device can be configured to operate in either synchronous or standard buck-boost mode. Its high-efficiency operation provides the best-in-class loop performance, reducing input and output ripple, while providing accurate and predictable system operation over temperature. In addition, several other features are included, such as input under-voltage lock-out, over-voltage protection, an adjustable soft-start, and adjustable frequency.

Working Principle
The LT3460ESC6#TRM is a high efficiency synchronous buck-boost switching regulator. It uses a switchable P-channel MOSFET and a synchronous rectifier to draw current from the input and convert it to regulated DC output voltage with minimum power loss. The internal oscillator and short-circuit protection circuitry allows it to function independently—without the need for external components or micro-controllers. The internal compensation is optimized for fast transient response and high output current stability.
The LT3460ESC6#TRM can operate in either buck-boost or synchronous buck-boost states to maintain a regulated output voltage. During normal operation, an internal high side MOSFET and a synchronous rectifier draw current from the input voltage to provide a regulated output voltage. When the input voltage exceeds the output voltage, the device operates in buck-boost mode, and the body diode of the high side MOSFET rectifies the current to provide the output voltage. In both modes, the internal synchronous rectifier provides lower switching losses than the standard alternative.
The LT3460ESC6#TRM integrates protection features that ensure safe and reliable operation. It offers adjustable input under-voltage lockout and over-voltage protection, as well as adjustable frequency, soft-start and output current limit settings.
