Working Principle

The LT3460ESC6#TRPBF is a synchronous switching converter composed of a pulse width modulated (PWM) current mode switch, an adjustable voltage monitoring circuit and an internal power MOSFET. At some point in the switching cycle, the input voltage is transferred to the output through the low RDS power switch. During this time, the output voltage is monitored by the internal voltage monitoring circuit and compared to the Voltage Reference pin. When the output voltage reaches the reference voltage, the PWM state will be reset and the bus voltage is transferred from the input voltage to the output.

The input voltage range is from 1.2V to 6V, with the output voltage range from 1.2V to 15V. The device features up to 95% efficiency and an adjustable switching frequency in the range from 200kHz to 2MHz. The switching frequency is adjustable with an external resistor, which allows for excellent noise performance. The output voltage is also adjustable with an internal voltage reference pin.

The LT3460ESC6#TRPBF internally monitors the switch current by sensing the MOSFET\'s drain to source voltage. This waveform is used to set an internal current limit threshold. When the current reaches its limit, the switch is disabled until the current drops below the threshold. This current limit prevented damage of the power MOSFET due to excessive switch current.

The LT3460ESC6#TRPBF is optimized for low quiescent current, allowing the device to remain in stand-by mode at a very low current. This device also features excellent line and load regulation, allowing a constant output voltage over wide input voltage and load current changes.
