The LT3482EUD#TRPBF is a synchronous step down DC/DC converter with integrated power MOSFETs. It is part of a family of DC/DC switching regulators, including buck, boost, buck-boost and automotive DCDC regulators. It offers adjustable output voltage, wide input voltage range, good load and line regulation, fast transient response and low quiescent current.
The LT3482EUD#TRPBF\'s application field can range from low current battery-operated systems, to automotive applications and some industrial equipment. Its integrated power MOSFETs and switching frequency control allow for a wide input voltage range and high efficiency operation.
The LT3482EUD#TRPBF is a non-synchronous buck regulator, with a wide output voltage range capability (<0.8V to 6V). It can generate an output voltage from an input voltage below, above, or equal to the output voltage. The device is capable of delivering up to 3A of output current and can operate over a wide range of temperatures.
Working Principle
The LT3482EUD#TRPBF features a power MOSFET switch and an integrated error amplifier. As the load connected to the output of the regulator varies, the MOSFET switch is turned on and off at a rate determined by the control loop of the regulator. The control loop includes the error amplifier, voltage reference, and internal or external feedback circuitry.
The error amplifier compares the output voltage of the converter to its reference voltage. This voltage determines the MOSFET duty cycle. The higher the duty cycle, the bigger the output voltage. When the duty cycle goes below a certain threshold, the output voltage will start to decrease, until the error amplifier adjusts the duty cycle to increase the output voltage. This process is continually repeated in order to keep the output voltage at the reference voltage and in accordance with the requirements of the load.
The switch frequency of the converter is varied by the control loop. The higher frequency brings the benefit of improved transient response and reduced output voltage ripple. The interpolation flow control (IFCC) feature can be used to regulate the output voltage, or to limit the maximum switch current in fixed frequency applications.
The LT3482EUD#TRPBF has a programmable soft-start feature and an adjustable voltage-tracking feature to control the output voltage. It also has other features such as a power-good indicator, line disconnect and thermal-shutdown protection.
