The LT3492EFE#PBF is a high voltage, step-down LED driver from Linear Technology, an analog and mixed-signal integrated circuit manufacturer. The device is designed for driving arrays of LEDs or AC/DC LED strings in either resistive or constant voltage architectures. It is used in applications such as industrial, automotive and general lighting, decorative lighting, portable lighting and signs and displays.Features
This LED driver has a wide input voltage range – up to 65V – and is stable across temperatures, making it ideal for a variety of applications and environments. It features a high efficiency, low voltage ripple and high temperature operation. The device can drive up to 17 LEDs in series and is capable of handling a wide range of currents up to 2.3A. It also features a unique Internal Overvoltage Protection (OVP) circuitry that provides independent OVP protection for each channel. In addition, the LT3492EFE#PBF offers a wide array of safety, monitoring and diagnostics features such as open LED detection, short LED detection and thermal shutdown. It also provides precise current control, and dimming capabilities.Working Principle
The LT3492EFE#PBF operates by controlling an external N-channel MOSFET to regulate the current of up to 17 LEDs in series. In steady state, the voltage across the external MOSFET and an internal current source causes the voltage across the LEDs to be constant. The current is then regulated by controlling the on-time of the external MOSFET. This is referred to as pulse-width modulation (PWM). The internal current source, combined with the PWM control, allows for precise and stable current control. The device can be dimmed using either resistance or voltage in the dimming pin. A voltage dimming option is provided for applications that require with 0 - 10V analog voltage control.Safety Features
The device\'s integrated OVP circuitry provides independent OVP protection for each channel, which can protect against unexpected over-voltage events. In addition, the device features open LED detection, which can detect when an LED has been disconnected and shuts off the LED string. This can prevent a short-circuit event in the LED string. And finally, the device features short LED detection, which can detect when two LED pairs in the LED string are shorted and keeps the LED string running safely.
