The LT3496IFE#TRPBF is a constant-current LED driver that integrates 12-bit pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming, sinusoidal valley-fill dimming and thermal regulation with 1.2A current capability. It is designed to operate with a wide input voltage range and supports loads up to 5A. Its flexibility allows designers to easily address a wide range of LED lighting applications, such as office lighting, automotive lighting, LED bulbs and LED strips.

The device offers protection against over-temperature and over-voltage conditions as well as current-foldback protection and fault reporting. It has an adjustable dimming range of 0.1 - 100%, with adjustable minimum brightness. It also features adjustable maximum brightness and soft-start time, adjustable valley fill, tail current and neat and clean pulsewidth modulation.

Working Principle

The LT3496IFE#TRPBF operates by converting an input voltage into an output voltage with pulse-width modulation (PWM). The device modulates the PWM duty cycle to deliver controlled LED current over a wide range of LED voltages. The LED current is derived by sensing the output voltage drop across an external sense resistor. The LED current can be adjusted by adjusting the external sense resistor, thus providing a precision dimming power control.

In addition to PWM dimming, the device offers valley-fill dimming and thermal regulation, both of which provide additional power regulation and protection. Valley-fill dimming allows the user to dim the output with a smoother transition at low dimming levels. The thermal regulation circuitry prevents the device from entering into thermal shutdown by reducing the output current when thermal limiting is detected.
