PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Controllers
The LTC1700EMS#TRPBF is a high performance, wide Vin DC/DC synchronous-rectified controller featuring dynamic voltage scaling, external compensation, fixed-frequency current mode control, dynamic output tracking, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, optional interrupt output and integrated high side and low side gate drivers.
The LTC1700EMS#TRPBF is ideal in applications requiring high efficiency at high output current. The device supports output voltages up to 12.6V and can operate over a wide voltage range. The device features Burst Mode® operation, allowing for wide load operating range and high power conversion efficiency.
Application Field and Working Principle
The LTC1700EMS#TRPBF is designed for isolated, bridgeless, high current non-isolated (flyback) and low current isolated DC/DC conversion in a wide variety of applications such as: portable electronics, automotive, battery powered systems and other high current, low voltage switched mode power supplies.
The LTC1700EMS#TRPBF is a synchronous-rectified controller featuring dynamic voltage scaling (DVS), external compensation, fixed-frequency current mode control, dynamic output tracking, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, optional interrupt output and integrated high side and low side gate drivers. The device is control via a control loop that controls the by varying the switching frequency. The voltage-mode control loop of the LTC1700EMS#TRPBF limits the output voltage while the current-mode loop limits the peak current used in the switching converter.
The LTC1700EMS#TRPBF features an adjustable input voltage range of 3.6V to 17V and an adjustable output voltage range of 0.8V to 12.6V. The device can accept wide input voltage range for high input suppressed voltage in automotive or 48V battery applications. The conversion efficiency of DC/DC power supplies can be improved by operating in Burst Mode. Burst Mode operation is enabled by setting the VCC pin to 3.2V.
The LTC1700EMS#TRPBF also features integrated high side and low side gate drivers and cycle-by-cycle current limiting. The integrated gate drivers allow the use of high side and low side FETs with lower gate voltage than conventional gate drivers, resulting in improved efficiency, higher power conversion and better EMI performance. The cycle-by-cycle current limit circuit monitors the output current and limits the peak current used in the switching converter, thus improving energy efficiency and minimizing component stress.
The LTC1700EMS#TRPBF features an enable pin, which can be used to enable and disable the device. In addition, the enable pin can be used to reduce the switch current, which will lower the power dissipation during operation when a battery is used.
The dynamic output tracking (DOT) feature of the LTC1700EMS#TRPBF can be used to adjust the output voltage depending on the load conditions. This feature reduces the wasted power from the power reset/generation process and increases overall efficiency. The device also features an interrupt output pin (ROML) for reporting out-of-limit events, such as overvoltage, undervoltage and overcurrent.
All these features work together to create a high-performance, wide Vin DC/DC synchronous-rectified controller that can be used in a variety of applications. The LTC1700EMS#TRPBF delivers high efficiency and low power dissipation at high output currents and wide operating range, making it ideal for battery powered and automotive applications.
