LTC3025IDC-1#TRPBF is a low-dropout (LDO) CMOS linear regulator designed specifically for battery-based applications. It provides a high level of accuracy, transient response, and low dropout voltage while maintaining low quiescent current levels over a wide input voltage range. The device features a low noise operation, low quiescent current, 1.3V to 20V input voltage range, 10µA typical quiescent current, 1.5V to 6V output voltage range, 500mA of continuous output current, 5µA shutdown current, current monitoring, programmable undervoltage lockout, and thermal protection.

Application Field

The LTC3025IDC-1#TRPBF is ideally suited for such applications as cell phone battery-powered operation and USB powered operation. It is also widely used in applications that require precise supply voltages of 3.3V, 1.8V or 1.2V. Working Principle

The LTC3025IDC-1#TRPBF is a low-dropout, CMOS linear voltage regulator that utilizes an external P-channel MOSFET as an active pass element. This configuration provides a low dropout voltage (V DO ), low quiescent current (I Q), wide input voltage range, and fast transient response. The device has a voltage reference of 1.24V and an internal error amplifier with a single pole gain of 20V/V.

The LTC3025IDC-1#TRPBF takes its input power from a source such as a battery, an input supply, or an intermediate bus. The input voltage range is 1.3V to 20V. The output voltage is set using an external resistor and/or capacitor divider. The gain of the internal error amplifier is 20V/V and its output voltage can be set to any voltage within the 1.5V to 6V range.

The current monitoring feature allows the system designer to detect when the output current of the regulator exceeds a certain threshold. This feature is useful in systems where the load is varying or not known in advance. The programmable undervoltage lockout (UVLO) feature allows the system designer to adjust the device’s turn on voltage as required.

The internal thermal protection feature prevents the device from overheating. The device is shut down if the junction temperature reaches 140°C. This feature helps to prevent the device from failing and allows the system to be covered under warranty.
