LTC3721EGN-1#PBF is a high frequency, synchronous, current-mode buck controller, which can operate from 4V to 36V input voltages. It uses a combination of inductor and power FET to regulate output voltage for of point-of-load applications. Because of its current-mode architecture, this product provides excellent load and line transient response. Vocm operation is also provided to control output voltage to allow ic driven output voltage adjustment.

Working Principle

The LTC3721EGN-1#PBF is a synchronous buck controller which regulates the output voltage using a fixed on/off duty cycle. The nominal input voltage is typically regulated to within ±10% accuracy. This is achieved by measuring the voltage across the output with the voltage feedback pin. When the voltage reaches a minimum or a maximum, a signal is sent to the control logic which adjusts the duty cycle of the control signals sent to the gates of power switches so that the output voltage will come to the level set by the user.

The LTC3721EGN-1#PBF features a current-mode architecture for improved transient response and stability. This feature eliminates the need for large external compensation networks, saving PCB real estate and cost. Current sense amplifiers are available on-chip, eliminating the need for external amplifiers and passive filter elements used to filter the signal.
