The LTC3829IFE is a specially designed Integrated FET (IFET) synchronous DC/DC converter controller, which is ideal for high efficiency, low output voltage and high current applications. It is a component of the Linear Technology Corporation’s dc-to-dc voltage regulator series. The LTC3829IFE mainly provides solutions for applications in networking, communications, test and measurement, and industrial equipment.

The LTC3829IFE synchronous controller can operate from 4.5 V to 28 V, and can be used in step down, step up, inverting, and flyback applications. In order for the voltage regulator series to meet all of the design criteria, the LTC3829IFE also integrates leading-edge safety, performance, and flexibility features.

The LTC3829IFE controller offers high operating voltage range, large operating temperature range, low quiescent current, current-mode control, programmable soft-start/stop, critical slow-start and light-load mode to support the system design.The device also provides fast transient response, frequency synchronization, high peak current limit and adjustable current limit.

The LTC3829IFE operates in current-mode control and is a synchronous controller with direct control of the integrated FET switch process. During normal operation, the internal gate driver and FET switch operate with a fixed 200 kHz frequency. The oscillator frequency is adjustable over a wide range from 40 kHz to 1 MHz through the RT pin to suit different operating frequencies.

The LTC3829IFE provides a “softstart” circuit to reduce the input current surge while powering on. This function can be adjusted to fit the application. The device then enters the normal operating state when the input voltage reaches the preset value. The softstart time can be adjusted with an external capacitor to the SS pin.
