The LTC3862IFE is a high performance switching mode DC/DC controller IC designed to regulate the output voltage of high power dc-dc power supplies. The LTC3862IFE is capable of controlling output voltage with high accuracy over a wide range of load, line and temperature conditions. With the ability to deliver up to 400W, it is ideal for high power supply designs in automotive, industrial, and telecom applications. The LTC3862IFE is packed with features to facilitate full implementation of the system’s design. It includes an on-chip voltage error amplifier, transient response control, soft-start, and logic level pin outputs.
The LTC3862IFE is capable of regulating multiple topologies, including buck and SEPIC, depending on the type of transformer used in the application. This allows designers to select the optimal topology, transformer ratios, and inductor to support their power supply design. The on-chip voltage error amplifier allows for programmable compensation using a single external resistor, while the shutdown pin can be used to disable the IC. The LTC3862IFE is designed to protect against over- and under-voltage, over-current and over-temperature conditions and shuts down or latches off automatically when parameters are exceeded. The IC also contains an over-current blanking circuit to prevent false trip-offs, which can help reduce external component count.
The LTC3862IFE includes on-chip soft-start control which eliminates power supply Inrush current and eliminates output transients due to ramping up of the output voltage. This feature is especially important in applications requiring high power, high current and high voltage. The soft-start feature ensures that the output voltage ramps up in a controlled manner and reduces the chance of output shorting. The integrated on-chip shutdown pin can be used to activate the soft start feature when the power supply is started. The LTC3862IFE also includes an integrated on-board current-mode control circuit, which eliminates the need of an additional current-mode controller IC. This makes the power supply design simpler as well as reducing the bill of materials.

The minimum on-time feature allows the user to adjust the stability of the supply depending on their application requirements.
