The LTC3892EUH-2#PBF is a high efficiency, low Iq synchronous monolithic step-down switching regulator controller designed for a wide range of voltage converter applications. It is a high performance solution for applications that require good efficiency and fast transient response, including industrial, medical, computing and communications applications. Its integrated high and low side MOSFET drive capabilities support synchronous and quasi-synchronous rectifying configurations, and automatic level shifting capabilities allow for easy implementation of phase shifted full bridge topologies.

Application Field

The LTC3892EUH-2#PBF can be used to efficiently and accurately convert voltages from high voltages down to as low as 0.6V and is ideal for CPU core rail applications, especially in applications requiring low voltage and low noise output. It has first in class operation frequency of up to 2.2MHz, which along with minimum internal propagation delay enables the highest possible efficiency in computing and other demanding applications. It has programmable output current limit and voltage target, which can be used to provide compatibility with range of loads while still maintaining good load regulation. It also features a wide variety of programmable features, including cycle-by-cycle current limit, hiccup over-load protection and a fixed frequency, open loop control.

Working Principle

The LTC3892EUH-2#PBF works by using a pulse width modulation (PWM) technique to control the output voltage. A switching element, such as a high and low side MOSFET, is used to act as a high frequency switch which turns on and off the output voltage of the controller. As the load varies, the controller adjusts the duty cycle of the switching element and hence, adjusts the output voltage of the converter.

The controller utilizes a unique cycle-by-cycle current limit technique to prevent short-circuits and create a soft start up. During the low-duty cycle and high-load conditions, the PWM pulses will be interrupted, and the MOSFET will be shut off. The controller then reduces the on time accordingly to avoid overloading. Moreover, the LTC3892EUH-2#PBF features programmable features like undervoltage lock out (UVLO), over voltage protection (OVP), and over temperature protection (OTP).

In addition to these features, the LTC3892EUH-2#PBF also has a high and low side MOSFET driver, allowing for up to 14A low side MOSFET and 12A high side MOSFET, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.
