LTC4162EUFD-FFS#TRPBF is a Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC), specifically designed for Battery Management. It allows full-featured control over the charging and discharging of a battery protected by an external Power MOSFET. The device has an adaptive MOSFET driver with programmable current-limit, safe operation area (SOA) and frequency foldback. The device also has an open-drain SOA monitor pin, and a programmable overvoltage protection (OVP) and overdischarge protection (ODP) feature.

LTC4162EUFD-FFS#TRPBF has two main functions: Battery Charging and Battery Discharging. When in Battery Charging mode, the device will provide constant-current/constant-voltage controlled charging of a single-cell Li-ion battery, and can be used for both fast and slow charging. The device automatically regulates the charging profile based on the battery\'s state-of-charge (SOC) and temperature. When in Battery Discharging mode, the device will automatically enable and disable the FET, to protect the battery from over-discharging, and maintain a proper SOC.

The device also has several protection features, designed to maintain a safe operating environment. These include Over-Voltage Protection (OVP), Over-Current Protection (OCP), Over-Temperature Protection (OTP), Under-Voltage Lockout (UVLO) and IO Pins Short-Circuit protection. In order to maximize efficiency, the device supports both synchronous and asynchronous dynamic power-consumption mode control.
