The device takes input from the VIN pin and makes it available to it’s OUT pin when positive voltage on the VINT pin allows for the part to turn on the OUT. When VIN goes below 0.4V, the part will turn off the OUT pin. The device allows for remote turn on of the supply through the VINT pin when a positive voltage is applied. The hot swap controller also allows for a sense line from the load to be mounted on the board using the SENSEA and/or SENSEB pins. The SENSEA and/or SENSEB pins will allow the device to limit inrush current based on the load current.

The LTC4225CGN-2#TRPBF uses a programmable current limit feature which is set using the C* pins. This allows the hot swap controller to limit the load current before high load current circuitry trips. A built-in power switch allows for a compact, low component count solution. The device also includes thermal protection to avoid over-temperature conditions, which can occur when the load current increases, or when the ambient temperature increases.

The LTC4225CGN-2#TRPBF is designed for applications that require hot plugging of boards or similar equipment. It is suitable for applications such as Ethernet/telecommunications hot insertion modules and server boards. The device is surface mountable and designed for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
