It uses specific logic control lines to determine which system supplies the main power source, and a high-speed comparator circuit to detect the load voltage to determine its capability or acceptance of power. When it detects a negative voltage (Drop-Out Voltage or “V-DOUT”), it immediately shuts off the power, before it can cause damage to the system.

Moreover, the auto-track current-limiting feature limits the power-up surge current and reduces the total system inrush current from the power source. Therefore, it actively prevents thermal issues resulting from high-voltage delivered to the load, and offers over-voltage protection.

It also provides comprehensive protection in both power over-voltage and under-voltage situations, plus active fault-sensing via a fault pin. The device features hot swap protection, fault condition protection, over-temperature protection, and current limit abort. It also manages two-way current flow and reduces system power draw on stand-by.

The LTC4228CUFD-2#TRPBF is typically used in applications such as motorsport, military, high reliability and industrial electronics systems, board level hot plug connections, low-voltage power supplies, motor control, hard disk drives, multiple processor-based systems, power modules, and power converter.
