The LTC4417HUF#PBF is a PMIC - OR Controller which serves as an ideal diode in the electronic circuit. This device can provide a very fast alternative to the relatively slow mechanical switch for the purpose of switching operability. To understand the operations involved, it is essential to note the properties and the working principle of this dedicated PMIC - OR Controller.
This particular device contains two MOSFETs with a single voltage supply rail. One of the two MOSFETs is kept as the primary and the other as the diode. The primary MOSFET is configured to provide direct electrical current path from a source of electrical potential to the load. At the same time, it couples the load to a higher bias potential of the load. The diode side is used to divert the current away from the load. It has a very low impedance when conducting the electrical current. Hence, it acts as the primary controlling agent responsible for the switching on and off of the load.
This unit also contains an OR gate which is responsible for the logic control of the device. It uses the low side primary MOSFET such that when the gate voltage is greater than the drain voltage, it will turn on the diode-side MOSFET. This action is then used to divert the current away from the load and thereby reduce the current draw produced by the source. Conversely, when the voltage applied to the logic gate is less than the drain voltage, the diode-side MOSFET remains off and the current is forced to flow from the source.

It has the ability to invert the output voltage of the source by adjusting the drain voltage applied to it. This can be used in the case of a switched power supply application where the voltage drops at a very high speed. It can also be used to control the current flow in the opposite direction to reduce the current draw in the opposite direction. Additionally, it has a slew rate of 10kHz which makes it ideal for high frequency tasks.
Apart from the abovementioned features, the device also comes with enhanced protection features which protects its circuitry from high temperature, overcurrent and overvoltage conditions. It has an inbuilt thermal shutdown which shuts down the diode when any part of the circuitry gets too hot. This feature can also be used to prevent any short circuit situation. Additionally, it also has a short circuit current protection which ensures that the current does not draw beyond its limit. This helps in the protection of the device from an electrical overload.
