The LTM®4606E is a step down monolithic switching mode DC-DC converter. This device is available in a low profile (3.8 mm max) thermally enhanced 24-lead power QFN package with exposed pads. This device can produce an output voltage from 0.8 V to 5 V with excellent load and line regulation for a wide variety of DC to DC conversion applications. It is suitable for point-of-load converters, computing and telecom power distribution and general industrial applications.
The LTM4606EY#PBF are DC DC converters that feature constant frequency current mode controllers using all patented Monolithic Micropower MOSFET power stages. The devices use a 3-state input voltage detector which allows the LTM4606 to work with an input voltage between either a 3.3V or 5.0V bus. When powered up on a 3.3V or 5.0V bus, the device monitors the bus voltage and switches to the appropriate state by automatically controlling the phase on/off timing.
The device has adjustable current limit setting options and a fast turn-on response to sudden changes in the load current. When the current limit is reached, the device automatically transitions into a cycle-by-cycle current limiting mode to limit the output current and ensure reliable operation. The device also has an adjustable soft-start function to minimize the in-rush current when coming out of a deep sleep mode. Additionally, the part has both input and output overvoltage protection.
The LTM4606EY#PBF employs a synchronous buck regulator design with a high efficiency, low profile buck regulator IC. The output voltage can be set with an external resistor divider network to deliver an extremely accurate, clean, fixed voltage. The output can be set to zero, making it suitable for applications requiring a zero voltage start up. The device works over a wide input voltage range of 2.3V to 5.5V with a fixed 3.3V or 5V input voltage.
The switching frequency can be programmed with an external resistor from 200kHz to 1MHz. The switching frequency is adjustable to reduce External components for lower cost designs. The frequency is synchronized with an external clock for the application of multiple-output systems and also is equipped with an integrated soft-start, allowing the output voltage to ramp up gradually instead of suddenly when the device is in use.
The wide input voltage range, fast transient response, low profile, high power efficiency and excellent load regulation of the LTM4606EY#PBF make it ideal for many point of load applications such as cellular phones, PDAs, digital cameras, and MP3 players. In addition, the high switching frequency of up to 1MHz makes it suitable for fast dynamic load switching. The LTM4606EY#PBF delivers up to 6A of output current and is capable of providing power to multiple loads from the same source.
