The most common type of DC-DC converter is the flyback converter, where the magnetic field of a transformer is used to store energy and regulate it into the desired output voltage.The LTM4641MPY is a compact, current mode, DC-DC converter with a wide input voltage range of 9 V to 60 V, and offers a selectable output current of 1 A or 2 A. It is designed to provide robust and efficient operation in high frequency and low voltage applications. It has a low output ripple of 40mV, high peak efficiency of 93%, overcurrent protection and thermal shutdown. The LTM4641MPY supports a range of input and output voltages compatible with high efficiency and low EMI applications. The working principle of the LTM4641MPY DC-DC converter is based on a Flyback converter topology. An internal current mode controller allows a wide input voltage range with fast loop response time and excellent transient overall performance. The internal switching device is designed to operate at a fixed frequency of 650 kHz. An optocoupler is used to transfer voltage from the primary to the secondary of the transformer. The dedicated IC allows for off-chip control of the primary switching duty cycle, enabling the user to manage the output voltage. The output power of the LTM4641MPY is adjustable via the load connection, by using PWM dimming techniques, or by control pin programming depending on user preference. Output current sensing is used for overload protection and to provide additional ripple reduction as well as providing frequency jittering when used in PWM dimming applications.The LTM4641MPY is a full featured DC-DC converter designed for a wide range of applications such as communications, renewable energy systems, robotics, home automation, LED lighting and monitoring applications.
